Today my car got stuck in the middle of the street because of the 7 inches of snow that by 2pm they still had not plowed. So here I am pregnant, trying to dig out my car, with a little 6 year old in my back seat.

After about 20 minutes, a guy offers to help, and gets a bunch of his buddies to help me too. I was thinking that was pretty kind. I was having trouble getting my car to keep rocking, and getting fustrated because I could not understand which way to keep turning my wheels, so I had one guy get in to steer and shift, while his buddies pushed.

Wouldn't you know it, that guy stole my checkbook off my passenger seat! I couldn't believe it! This is after I handed the guys all the cash I had in my pocket as a thank you for helping me. As I was driviing I noticed, that it "dissapeared". I called Jay who called the bank right away to find that withen the short time between when it was stolen and us calling, a check had already been written for $134.07 out of the stolen checkbook.

What the hell is wrong with people? Did he only stop to help me so he could rob me? There is no kindness in this city. I want to move NOW.

Were you planning on moving when you bought a house - or are you just now? That really sux Jo, how are you? Not stressing out too much? Because that's not good for you or the baby - Is there a way they can track the cheque to find out who cashed it or anything, so you can get it back - do you have to open a new account etc I know it's alot on top of everything else but try not to let it stress you out too much ok. Love You - take care!!!

The City is Minneapolis.

He did write out a second check made out to a person's name. Jo has to file a police report today. Trina - I think they decided to live in Minneapolis before that bought a house to see if they would like living there. I think they are going to go back to the "burbs' as soon as the lease is up.

I am responding because Jo can't get online as often as she likes.

I hate Minneapolis, no kindness in this city. I can't wait until our lease is up, I am never living here again. The guy wrote another check for $235 to a Maquise Washington. We find out about any more checks presented today. Blah!
We have to open a new account, It is really messing things up right now because we are in the process of applying for a home loan, and they look at all our bank accounts, and since we have a freeze on that account its a big headache.

Danny~ We requested copies of the checks written out, I will post when I find out where or who those jerks decided to use the stolen money.

I like where I live now, but I would have no problem moving to Saint Paul if the situation arose.  I have lived in Saint Paul for a total of five years of my life, and I love it.  I'd love to live in Hamiline-midway, Saint Anthony Park, Como, Grand Avenue, or Highland Park.  In fact, that is where my wife and I are "musing" to spend our retirement.  (I would be a little worried about exposing my kid to the "influences" in the local public schools there, but I have met some real go-getters when I student taught at Highland Park and Central.  However I am a bit more confident in the Monticello system.)

That said: if you choose to live in a larger city, it is wise to choose among the nicer neighborhoods to live in.

For instance: Marcie Holmes and Nokomis are reasonably nice neighborhoods in Minneapolis.  Uptown is interesting for young people, but not necessarily a place for families.  The area around Minnehaha Falls is pretty nice too.

Of course, I'd much rather live in Saint Paul than Minneapolis.  I know my way around better, plus it is more aesthetically pleasing.

Somewhat of a change of topic: The best Minnesota city to live in is?

My vote goes to Roseville.

(...However, knowing what I know now -due to proximity- Saint Cloud is also a fantastic place!)
