As my previous blog shared, my new city stole my car. I just got back from the impound lot, where I was tenth in a line of people that also had thier car towed due to street sweeping.

Those assholes damaged my car. The broke my drivers side mirror, and sctached up the passesnger side of the car.

And what do I havd to do? PAY THEM. I am going to court to fight the ticket which is $30, but I can not get back the 140 impound fee, or the cost of all the damage they did to my car.

We have only lived in Minneapolis for 2 days and this is the welcome we get. What a dumbass city.

You should seriously look into that--I'm pretty sure the city is responsible for damages--especially if you can prove there was no sign regarding the street sweeping. You just gotta be willing to fight!

The release says they are not responsible, but I am fighting it anyway!

Well, that's a nice welcome to urban life, isn't it?

Apart from that, how's it going? I've been to Minneapolis....it's one of the 2 major cities that are *close* to where I'm at in SD (Denver is the other one).

I was going to say that I miss city life...but reading about your misfortune made me recall all the downsides to it.

Other than the stupid parking. It is a really cool city! I have always wanted to live somewhere where I was the minority... and the neighborhood we live in I am definatly am! There is a lot to do. Luckily I have paid off street parking but I couldn't get in until May 1st....

That is one of the main things that I remember about when I lived in Minneapolis. I would get at least one parking ticket per month.

Never towed though... You have to watch for those signs!

I am sure that the lack of information (about temporary tow-away zones, etc.) is exceptionally harsh on non-English speakers.

There wasn't any signs, my neighbors have also affirmed this.
I have to imagine (had there been signs) that a non- english speaker would have a very hard time with on street parking. They should put signs in multiple languages.

That's just to convince you to not file. It's like the waivers that people make you sign saying that they aren't responsible for your death--they don't hold water.

Get thee a camera out and start taking pictures! Then get thee to the courthouse and file suit! Oh, and if you can, see if your neighbors would be willing to make notarized statements regarding the lack of signs.
